A Somali official who was last week named Prime Minister by President Abdullahi Yusuf has quit.
Mohamed Mahamud Guled said he chose to resign because his appointment was destabilising the government.
Mr Guled was appointed in defiance of Somali members of parliament, who said the dismissal of Nur Hassan Hussein had been illegal.
He says he also made the decision because he wants the government to remain in power and differences among its leaders to be sorted out.
The former interior minister says he hopes the president would accept his decision, and that he would remain a member of parliament.
