Road death toll rises
The death toll on the nation’s roads has now moved to 330 with two days left in the year.
The authorities launched a programme last month aimed at keeping the figure under 300.
Twenty people have been killed in traffic crashes in the last 10 days.
These include the 14 who were killed in Portland on the night of December 19.
In the latest incident, a 65-year-old man died after he was hit by a motor car on the Alexandria Main Road, in St Ann, yesterday evening.
The man, Lloyd Redman, is from Bristol in Alexandria.
The police say about 7:30 p.m. Mr Redman was walking along the Alexandria main road when he was hit by a grey Toyota Corolla motor car.
He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
On Saturday night, a 71-year-old carpenter was killed after he was hit by a motor vehicle on the Lilliput main road in St James.
According to police reports, about 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, Ezra Reid of a Lilliput address walked into the path of a motor truck.
He received several injuries and died before reaching hospital.
