Watt’s son in court
Kirk Patrick Watt, 37, is to appear in the Gun Court today on charges of robbery kidnapping and illegal possession of a firearm.
He is the son of the Director of the Finance Ministry’s Memorandum of Understanding Secretariat, Verline Hyacinth Watt, who was freed of drug possession charges on Wednesday.
Kirk Patrick Watt was arrested and charged on Tuesday and remains in police custody.
The charges stemmed from the kidnapping of a man along North Street in downtown Kingston earlier this month.
The man was allegedly taken to Tivoli Gardens where he was held for two days.
He was then taken to a house in the Constant Spring area of St Andrew and tied up.
The man was allegedly forced to call a friend and when the friend went to the premises he too was tied up and both men were placed in a room at the back of the house.
The men managed to free themselves and reports were made to the police.
It was during a search of the premises that Mrs. Watt was implicated after the police found a white substance they thought might be a narcotic.
