Beechwood light problems

Published:Friday | January 23, 2009 | 7:52 AM

The police are appealing for the authorities to correct a problem with the traffic lights at the intersection of Beechwood Avenue and Lyndhurst Road in St Andrew.

The intersection has been the scene of numerous collisions in recent months with many motorists complaining about the poor placement of the traffic lights.

The police say motorists are unable to see the light properly as they approach the intersection.

Yesterday the intersection was the scene of another accident, which left 64-year-old Gleaner contractor, Donald Vendryes, nursing injuries.

He was hit from his motorbike while at the intersection about 11: 30 a.m.

The police say Mr. Vendryes was hit by a motorcar, which failed to stop at a red light.

Official reports show that 22 people lost their lives in road traffic mishaps in the first 19 days of the year.

Last year, 341 persons died on the nation’s streets.
