National Work Agency on flooding

The National Works Agency (NWA) said continuous rainfall in the parishes of St Thomas, Portland and St Mary has been affecting its ability to reopen several roads, which have been blocked as a result of heavy rains since last night.

Nearly 40 roads in the three parishes have been affected by flooding and landslides.

Manager of Communication and Customer Service at the NWA Steven Shaw said although the agency is working to open many of the roads heavy rains are creating further problems.

He said several other roads in St Mary including Fort George to Camberwell and Islington to Port Maria are still blocked.

In St Thomas, the Johnson River has overflowed its banks flooding the Serge Island main road.

The roadway from Hordley to Haining is also blocked.
