Alternative routes open in St Mary

The National Works Agency (NWA) said it has established alternative routes for some roads in St Mary, which have been impassable since last week.

Heavy rains in the parish have left the main roads from Islington to Martins, Martins to Rosend, Montreal to Top Derry, Langley to Boynes Park and Port Maria to Oxford impassable.

The heavy rains have also caused severe damage to the Union Hill to Oracabessa and Lucky Hill to Halifax Bridge roads.

Communications Manager at the NWA, Stephen Shaw said alternative routes have been established for four of the blocked roads.

He said the agency is working to have the other blocked routes in the parish reopened as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, Mr Shaw said special attention would be given to the Rio Grande Valley in Portland, a section of which is now not accessible to vehicular traffic.
