MAJ President survives

A planned move to have the president of the Medical Association Jamaica (MAJ) Dr. Rosemarie Wright-Pascoe voted out yesterday did not materialise.

It was expected that she would have been removed as president at an extraordinary meeting.

Dr. Wright Pascoe and her colleagues have been at loggerheads since the release of the recent National Chest Hospital probe.

They claim that she failed to represent the association in ensuring that due process was followed in the probe relating to thoracic surgeon, Dr Dennis Pyne.

Dr Wright Pasco was part of a panel which carried out the probe.

The MAJ members contended that the Medical Council of Jamaica should probe matters involving disciplinary action against doctors and not a special panel.

Dr. Wright Pascoe said during yesterday’s extra-ordinary meeting the members were given an opportunity to voice their concerns.

However, she said they maintained support for her and the executive.

A constitutional provision yesterday prevented the MAJ from voting on a resolution to have Dr Dennis Pyne resume his medical practice.

Pyne, has been on interdiction since July 14, 2008, pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings into his professional conduct at the National Chest Hospital.
