Light trading on stock market

The Jamaican stock market closed at 92,808.37 points or 0.38 per cent above opening after a light trading day on the Jamaica Stock Exchange Thursday.



The main market index advanced to 91,508.06 points, an increase of 0.47 per cent or 430.83 points after 1.655 million units were traded.



With 336,572 units traded on the junior market, that index lost 15.75 points, closing at 622.57 points, 2.47 per cent below today’s opening position of 638.32 points.



The overall market gained 0.38 per cent or 347.21 points from trading 1.99 million units valued at J$35.5 million.



Jamaica Broilers Group was the most active stock, trading 505,500 units and closing at J$4.85 or 2 cents below the opening price. This comprised 30.54 per cent of trades during the session.



Next was GraceKennedy with 400,000 stocks, (24.16 per cent), followed by Ciboney Group with 300,000 units (18.12 per cent).



Of the 24 stocks traded 9 advanced, 8 declined and 7 held firm.



The biggest gains were made by Pan-Jam Trust, which went up J$2.67 to J$59.95; Scotia Investments Jamaica increased by 72 cents to $28, and Barita Investments Limited up 8 cents to J$3.88.



The top three losers were Dolphin Cove, AMG Packaging and Paper Company, and Honey Bun.
