8-week road closure for section of Marcus Garvey Drive
The National Works Agency (NWA) is to close the southbound lane of Marcus Garvey Drive, between Three Miles and Ashenheim Road, next Tuesday, June 12, is to facilitate the laying of a new sewer main.
The NWA says the works, which are scheduled to last for eight weeks, will be undertaken by the National Water Commission and forms part of the larger Hagley Park Road Improvement project.
As a result of the closure, there will be no direct access to Marcus Garvey Drive for motorists travelling from either side of Spanish Town Road or Hagley Park Road.
The NWA explains that traffic transiting through Three Miles, heading onto Marcus Garvey Drive, should travel along Spanish Town Road, in the direction of downtown, Kingston; turn onto Development Road, then onto Ashenheim Road and exit onto Marcus Garvey Drive in the vicinity of Pure National Ice Company.
The agency says a temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Spanish Town Road and Development Road to assist with traffic flow.
It says further that the new travel arrangement will function as a one-way during the afternoon peak hours of 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to facilitate motorists travelling towards Portmore.
The NWA is reminding that the Three Miles area and its environs continue to be an active work zone and traffic delays are likely to occur even with the changes.
It says the agency continues to assess the impact of the work on traffic and will make necessary changes as the work progresses.
Motorists and pedestrians are being advised to exercise extreme caution while traversing the construction zone and to obey the instructions of flag persons and warning signs.
