Holmwood’s Russell sets new Class I girls’ 400m Central Champs record

Holmwood Technical High School’s Rickiann Russell caught Oneika McAnnuff of Hydel about 10 metres from home and powered away to win the Class I girls’ 400 metres in an impressive record of 51.73 seconds in the final of the Central Athletics Championships at GC Foster College today.

Russell broke her own mark of 52.60 seconds set earlier in the preliminaries, with McAnuff also inside the old record as she did 51.94 seconds, with Edwin Allen’s Kacian Powell finishing third in 53.28.

Hydel were successful in Classes II and III in the 400 metres as Abigail Campbell won the former in 53.61 seconds, while Natassia Fletcher took the latter in 56.04.
