Miss Universe Jamaica North East casting call today
Caribbean’s Next Top Model 2017 Shamique Simms special guest
Organisers of Miss Universe Jamaica North East for 2023 are currently seeking contestants to enter the pageant.
A curtain call to see prospective entrants will be held on March 4 at Mongoose Restaurant and Lounge in Ocho Rios, starting at 11:30 a.m. Interested young women are being urged to take advantage of what could turn out to be a life-changing opportunity for them.
The Caribbean’s Next Top Model 2017, Shamique Simms, will be guest judge at the curtain call, as she lends her talent to help select the cream of the crop for the regional finals in April.
“We are encouraging young ladies who are between the ages of 18 and 27 to turn out for a chance to represent the region in the grand finals later this year; bring your heels and swimwear,” said committee member Kaydian Harty, who is a past contestant in the event.
“Not only that, we are confident that North East can produce the national winner this year, someone who will represent Jamaica with distinction at the international finals,” Harty added.
She said she was encouraged by the number of young ladies showing interest in the pageant and have actually registered already. However, she expressed disappointment in the number of sponsors who have so far committed to the event.
“We are still looking for sponsors and are urging the business sector to support the event as there are numerous benefits to be gained from being associated with the Miss Universe brand,” Harty pointed out.
This year, the Jamaica Cancer Society St Ann and St Mary branches will benefit from part proceeds from the pageant.
Jamaicans have represented their country with distinction in the global Miss Universe contest over the years, including 2017 second runner-up, Davina Bennett who was featured on a billboard in New York in a Nordstrom advertisement in January.
