#BudaQuest | Clayton, Russell, Knight through to women’s 400mh semis

Jamaica’s trio of Rushell Clayton, Janieve Russell and Andrenette Knight safely booked their spots in the semi-final round of the women’s 400-metre hurdles after cruising through qualification at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Clayton, competing in heat one at the National Athletics Centre, set the tone for the Jamaicans, crossing the tape in front in a quick 53.97 seconds. The 2019 bronze medallist finished ahead of American Dalilah Muhammad, who clocked 54.21.

Following the example of Clayton, Russell, running in heat two, was also best of the field, clocking 54.53.

Knight, competing in heat three, however, had to play second fiddle, clocking 54.21, to finish behind winner Kemi Adekoya of Bahrain, who clocked an area record 53.56.

Dutch runner Femke Bol is the quickest through to the semi-finals, sauntering to 53.39 to win heat four.
