Jamaica's Candice McLeod placed seventh in the women's 400 metres final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Wednesday.

McLeod who advanced to the final as a non-automatic qualifier, clocked 51.08 seconds.

The event was won by Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic who blasted to victory in a national record 48.76. The silver medal went to Natalia Kaczmarek of Poland in 49.57 and the bronze to Sada Williams of Barbados in 49.60.
