Political hand-wringing getting us nowhere

THE EDITOR, Madam:

As the country reels from one murderous event to the next, the hand-wringing of the political class has become overwhelming and is depressing. This gives me the impression that they don’t have any clue about the causes or solutions to this desperate situation.

Their utterances reflect an ignorance of the situation for most, all while awarding themselves salaries to justify their position as “rulers” and being the so-called best and brightest. An example of this disconnect with the people and the reality in the country is the police commissioner telling us that murder statistics are trending down, while in the last two weeks we have had triple and quadruple murders.

From where I sit, it appears that the murders are decreasing in number while increasing in cold viciousness, killing children and groups of people is now a thing. Are we in a war? Who are the protagonists, and antagonists. While all the time, the political class quite separate from us, wring their hands and profess sorrow and pain. What do they know of pain, who among them has been murdered or displaced?

While official hands are wringing and their public relations departments busy spinning the latest events to present to the public, I have no water since last Friday. The roadwork in Bull Bay area continues with the usual disregard for public safety and the new divided highway has effectively split the community in two. The public transportation system have been awarded a fare increase to offset their expenses, while the JUTC continues to be run like a tyre shop. My car suspension, recently repaired from damage driving in Bull Bay area, is again damaged from driving on the same roads.

The hand-wringing is not helping me at this time. As a matter of fact, if I didn’t have to see or hear the pathetic excuse of Government as to why they are not doing their job, it would help me get through my days. They are the least help in my striving to be productive.

If I can suggest to the political class a simple idea. If you cannot solve the problems, most of which are the result of their ineptitude and lack of capacity to solve, then they should do the honourable thing and resign.

Listening to the political class reminds me of the following nursery rhyme: “Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall, all the “Prime Ministers” (Kings) Horses and all the “Prime Ministers” (Kings) men, (with all their money and power in the world), could not put Humpty together again …” And I won’t be a party to that sorrow, I have my own problems.

Happy Heroes Day to the hard-working people of Jamaica, we keep electing people who are not serving in the public interest, only themselves and their parties, yet we persist. So very heroic.
