Educate and spread awareness on Down syndrome
THE EDITOR, Madam:
World Down Syndrome Day is commemorated every year to raise awareness and educate the public about the condition which originate during prenatal development. It is present from birth and is not caused by anything a parent did or did not do. The awareness gives people with Down syndrome and their families an opportunity to talk freely about their experiences.
World Down Syndrome Day encourages the world to give the people with Down syndrome the recognition and empowerment they deserve. It also raises awareness to break some stigmas surrounding them, and encourages them to live a full life and be an active part of their communities. The governments should help and participate by distributing resources on how to care for people with Down syndrome.
They can lead active, healthy, and independent lives if there is early detection and supporting them at an early stage to prevent problems from developing or worsening. Each person with Down syndrome is unique, with varying abilities and needs. They can often have challenges, such as being slower to learn to speak than other children.
We should celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by participating and educating ourselves about Down syndrome and spread awareness, and raise funds for research.
