The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing another police fatal shooting, which it says has brought the number of such killings involving the security forces to 140 since the start of the year.

INDECOM says the figure represents an overall 137 per cent increase in these fatal shooting incidents when compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

As at June 4 last year, 59 persons had been fatally shot by the security forces.

Moses Morgan was killed in the latest police shooting in Knockpatrick, Manchester, on Wednesday.

INDECOM says the police reported that they were on surveillance duties when a man, believed to be armed, aroused their suspicion. It is alleged that during their pursuit of the man, there was a tussle for a service weapon between the now deceased and one of the police officers.

Morgan is alleged to have attempted to retrieve a gun from his waistband, and the concerned officer subsequently fired in response. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The police say a Smith and Wesson revolver was recovered from Morgan.

No body-worn camera was used by any of the concerned officers in the incident.

INDECOM says the scene was examined and the evidential material recovered, processed and packaged. The hands of the deceased were swabbed for gunshot residue, and the body photographed and sealed, pending post mortem examination.

The concerned officers were served with Section 21 Notices, pursuant to the Independent Commission of Investigations Act, 2010, to submit statements and attend interviews.

INDECOM continues to encourage citizen participation in the investigative process by providing any known information. Witnesses are asked to provide photos, videos, or information available in relation to these and other fatal shooting incidents. The information should be shared via INDECOM’s Whatsapp number (876)553-0000 or persons may visit or contact the office of the Commission at 876-968-1932 or 876-968-8875.
