The mood was festive at the Seminar Room of the Edna Manley College on recently.

A few short weeks ago, Nelson Mandela was erroneously declared dead. Lying in a hospital bed in Pretoria for an inordinately longer time than his previous visits had kept him, when news of the anti-apartheid South African leader's deteriorating health surfaced, it quickly set off panic buttons among the hordes clamouring outside his hospital as well as the rest of the world.

The Embassy of Spain and The Spanish-Jamaican Foundation in collaboration with the Arts Foundation of the Edna Manley College (EMC) awarded scholarships valued at J$125,000 each to five talented students from the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in a handing over held on the college campus earlier this week.

It was always like Graham to never leave the house. He never made friends, never played any sports or extra-curricular activities, he didn't talk to his neighbours and he most certainly didn't talk to girls. It was just school and back every day for the last 15 years of his life.

Claudia Jones' mother has four children for different men, none of whom settled with her. Domestic days work is her main source of income, so the children, except Claudia, didn't go to school beyond grade nine.
