JSE 'nano' market coming

The creation of a micro exchange for small businesses, referred to as a 'nano market', is possible within the short term.

"We are still working on the rules and operating procedures, and to determine where legislative changes may be required," said Managing Director of the Jamaica Stock Exchange, Marlene Street Forrest.

"To crystallise the framework and launch the micro market, we will need the assistance of the relevant stakeholders ..." she said, specifically naming the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture & Fisheries, Ministry of Finance, JSE broker members.

"We could launch this market within the year with the necessary commitment from all stakeholders."

The promise of creating a micro exchange was raised Audley Shaw, then as Minister of Finance. He raised the issue again in his sectoral address as new head of the Ministry of Industry.

Get ready for flying taxis

NASA and Uber have signed an agreement to explore putting flying taxis in the skies over US cities.

NASA said Tuesday that it will begin simulations for so-called "urban air mobility" vehicles that also include delivery drones.

NASA says the goal is to create a rideshare network that will allow residents to hail a small aircraft the same way Uber users can now use an app to call a car. Simulations are planned for NASA's research facility at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
