Tommy Cowan, director of Glory Music, is singing praises about the ever-growing impact of the Hi-Pro Denbigh Gospel Extravaganza held on August 6.

“The way people are drawn to this event over the years to share the gospel is a testimony,” Cowan, the event producer, said.

The concert kicked off with the Spaulding New Testament Church of God Dance Group, who have won several international dance awards, followed by Verlando Small, 2013 Digicel Rising Stars winner, who delivered spectacular renditions of So Will I, Jireh, and Goodness of God. Small had the large crowd accompanying him on his saxophone performing as though they were his backing vocalists.

Antonette Bromfield, marketing manager of Hi-Pro, spoke of the 14 years of the company’s sponsorship of the event, and said that being a part of this gospel showcase “is easy as it brings together the two most important things for Hi-Pro, agriculture and God”.

First-timer, Petra-Kaye came on next with an abundance of energy throughout her performance and closed with her latest release Cross Over. Another first-timer speaker, Reverend Steve Hepburn, was a ball-of-fire. He came out singing The Best Is Yet To Come and reading from the 23rd Psalm, intercessing for God’s guidance over Jamaica in these trying times.

This made way for Clarendonian gospel minister, Dr. Carlene Davis, who, in a 40-minute inspiring set, delivered One Handful of Salt, Jah shall Wipe Way All Tears, The Assignment, Highway To Heaven and the Hallelujah Medley. She surprised her husband, Tommy Cowan, with their anniversary rendition of her hit song Going Down To Paradise and a shocked Cowan responded by singing his very own song, Ba Ba Boom Time Tonight.

MC Nadine Blair then brought on the exuberant Pastor Goddy Goddy, who had the flag-waving, foot-stomping crowd singing along to Chacka Chi, Fill My Truck, and Let’s Go Forward For God. He left the stage in a mood of continuous dancing as Kevin Downswell entered at 9:05 p.m. to tumultuous applause.

Downswell brought the curtains down in style with hits, such as Feel Like Running, I Got My Mind Made Up, along with All I want is You, Grace and You Make Me Stronger.
