Robbie Shakespeare’s son making his musical mark
In the vibrant world of reggae music, the legendary duo Sly and Robbie, comprising drummer Sly Dunbar and the late bassist Robbie Shakespeare, have made an indelible mark on the genre.
The duo, known for their influential rhythms and innovative production, paved the way for countless artistes in the reggae industry, including Shaun Shakespeare, the son of the late Robbie Shakespeare. Known as BuddahBabyWoo, he is the spitting image of his father, not only in appearance, but also in the deep passion he holds for music.
BuddahBabyWoo’s music is a fusion of Afrobeats, reggae, hip-hop, and rap. His lyrics are edgy and urban, and he can seamlessly transition between languages, often breaking into Jamaican dialect, a testament to his cultural and musical diversity.
As the son of the late reggae legend Robbie Shakespeare, BuddahBabyWoo is aware of the rich legacy he inherits, and he is determined to honour it while carving out his own path.
“I want to carry on my father’s legacy, I want the accolades, the Grammy nominations, and I’m willing to put in the work to get it, just like my father did,” BuddahBabyWoo said.
Sly Dunbar, BuddahBabyWoo’s godfather, expressed pride in Shaun’s musical journey.
“I’ve witnessed Shaun’s passion and dedication to music from a very young age. He has inherited the reggae spirit, and it’s inspiring to see him add his unique touch to the genre while respecting its roots. I do not doubt that he will make a significant impact on the world of music,” Sly Dunbar said.
BuddahBabyWoo, who is gaining attention with recently released track, Can’t Trade, is currently in the studio working on his debut album.
