Wolmer’s Old Boys honour the G.G.
The Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Florizel Glasspole, was honoured at a cocktail party given by the Wolmer’s Old Boys’ Association at the school hall on Monday evening.
Dr. John Williams, the president of the Association, presented the Governor-General with a box of cigars as a token of the gratitude of the Association for the honour which he had conferred on the school by his achievements.
He said that the Governor-General, a Wolmer’s Old Boy, had achieved a great deal in a lifetime with efficiency and honour. He wished him a long and fruitful term of office.
A bouquet was presented to Her Excellency, Mrs. Glasspole, by Mrs. Ramon Alberga, the wife of the Chairman of Wolmer’s Boys’ School Trust.
The Governor-General thanked the Association for the tribute to himself and his wife, affording him the opportunity to talk with some of his old schoolmates.
He gave amusing anecdotes of his days at Wolmer’s and spoke of the discipline maintained by his teachers. He said if the principles for which those teachers stood and the discipline they imposed were adopted throughout the country today, there would be nothing to fear for the future of the nation.
Among the large number of old boys and guests present at the cocktail party were Mr. Ramon Alberga, the chairman of the Wolmer’s Boys’ School Trust; Dr. Richard Morris, Principal of Wolmer’s Boys’ School, and Mrs. Morris; Brigadier Dunstan Robinson, Chief of Staff, Jamaica Defence Force, and Mrs. Robinson; Mr. Barrie Wright, President of the Parents Teachers Association, and Mrs. Wright; and Mrs. John Williams.
