Needing clarity on Junior Achievement

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I just read the feature on Junior Achievement Jamaica appearing in the November 13, 2016, edition of The Sunday Gleaner. I have no doubt that this is a very useful programme and very vital in introducing young people to entrepreneurship and the discipline that goes with it.
I am, however, a bit concerned about the beginnings of the programme in Jamaica and am, therefore, seeking some clarity on this matter. From The Gleaner's publication, I am of the impression that the movement started seven or nine years ago.
I can recall a programme being run by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) from the 1980s to the late 1990s. I was Seprod's representative to a Junior Achievement (JA) company at St Hugh's High School one year when I was employed to that company. When I became principal of Clan Carthy High School, I invited the JCC representative to establish a JA company at the school, which was successfully done. The following year, the movement seemed to have gone into hibernation, so there was no follow-up.
Since the programmes seem so much alike, information would be helpful.
