All hail our teachers
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I use this medium to highlight and commend all the teachers who have contributed to my success. From Rock Hall Basic School to Rock Hall All Age to St Mary's College to lecturers, I salute you all. There's a marked difference between teaching now and teaching then, but the essence of our teachers should still stand. I do believe that teaching should be a highly paid profession based on the depth and nature of the job. A teacher assumes multiple roles: from nurse to office clerk to lawyer to police, and the list continues.
From writing lesson plans to marking registers, to updating accumulative records, to resolving conflicts, to caring about the well-being of 50 or more students, a teacher's task is never done.
There should be a Teachers' Day in every semester and even so, this recognition would not be enough to honour our educators. A significant raise in pay should be the least the Government should do in honour of our teachers. After all, there would be no government without teachers!
