Enquiry into Cornwall Regional critical
THE EDITOR, Sir:
There are too many unanswered questions concerning the state of affairs at the Cornwall Regional Hospital and the possible effects on the health of staff and patients.
Truth be told, one gets the impression that the minister blundered or at best took a politically expedient decision which went counter to the advice of the technical experts.
Further, it would be instructive to hear from the former CMO as to what really transpired in that meeting with the minister.
The minister claimed that only the CMO could, under law, order the closure of the hospital. The CMO advised the minister, by letter, that he would not issue the closure order.
Did the CMO resile from his original position or was it that he did not consider the order necessary, since evacuation was imminent? For these and other reasons, I support the appointment of a commission of enquiry.
