District constables the black sheep of JCF?
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Today, I have a few concerns and questions regarding district constables.
1. What is the meaning of the word 'district' in district constable?
2. Are you aware that numerous district constables spent their entire professional life in the police force with little or no recognition?
3. Why are district constables not getting more respect?
4. Aren't district constables an important part of their district and community policing overall?
5. Why are district constables posted to work outside of their district?
6. Shouldn't district constables be the persons on the ground in their communities assisting the regular members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force?
7. Are you aware that numerous district constables are posted to work in places far from their home community and in places with which they are not familiar?
8. What's the purpose of naming a group district constables if they are to be placed somewhere other than their district?
9. Don't you think you would get more commitment from district constables if they were treated better and placed to work in communities they were fully familiar with?
10. Finally, who is entrusted with immediate oversight or checks and balances to ensure those at the DC level are treated better?
