Norbrook Drive isn't Dover Raceway

THE EDITOR, Sir:

On Wednesday evening, about 7 p.m., we heard an almighty screeching of brakes, skidding of tyres, and a colossal crash. We ran out of our houses to find a pickup on its side, on the sidewalk wedged into a neighbour's wall.

As if this accident was not enough of a scare for one night, while several concerned persons were surveying the scene of the accident, a JUTC bus was seen hurtling along Norbrook Drive towards the site of the accident. Even more frightening was the fact that the JUTC bus was also overtaking several cars that were forced to slow down in order to pass by the accident!

A few of the people in the small crowd that had gathered were forced to scamper to safety, fearing that the bus driver could lose control or swerve into them! Fortunately he maintained control of the bus, but unfortunately we were unable to get the licence plate number.

As residents of Norbrook Drive for nearly 20 years, this comes as no surprise to us. We are constantly exposed to the dangerous speed and overtaking on this road morning, noon and night!

Over the years, this road has gone from a quiet country-like road to the I-95 of Kingston! Many using it think that they are David Summerbell at Dover Raceway! Furthermore, with all the roadworks going on in the area, this road has become even more heavily used as a shortcut.

People, Norbrook Drive is NOT the I-95! It is NOT Dover Raceway! SLOW DOWN! We implore the relevant authorities to disincentivise speeding by placing several speed bumps on this road.
