Flooding in Newport West

Published:Sunday | October 28, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

As a business resident of Newport West, Kingston, who has experienced several flooding events there over the years, let me give you my opinion of what causes flooding in the area.

Flooding there is caused by runoff of surface water after the drains are inundated from Hagley Park Road and East Avenue into the area.

To prevent flooding, all that is needed is to divert those sources of surface water from reaching Marcus Garvey Drive.

That is where the engineering brain power should be focused, as some type of barrier must be designed and erected to divert the floodwaters away from Marcus Garvey Drive and Newport West.
