More questions on NIDS case than answers

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Having read several fragmented news reports conveying inconsistent and conflicting details of the recent NIDS Supreme Court hearing, I wish there was a video available online to get the correct information. So far, my search for that video has been unsuccessful.

According to his letter to The Gleaner Editor, one Ralston Chamberlain in Toronto, Ontario, should know exactly what had been said at the recent NIDS Supreme Court hearing.

Unfortunately, I can't ask the gentleman where he got his information from because there is no email address attached to the publication of his letter.

While there are more questions than answers, it all boils down to the fact that Chief Justice Bryan Sykes doesn't like the proposed credit card-size, durable identity card containing biometric data. Instead, his Lordship suggests offering free passports to all Jamaicans.

His Lordship, the Honourable Chief Justice Bryan Sykes is, of course, entitled to an opinion of his own. With regard to NIDS, he would have been well advised to keep that opinion to himself. His questionable demeanour is not indicative of impartiality. Rather than reaching a conclusion with regard to the constitutionality of NIDS, he seemed from the outset to be determined to impede its implementation.
