Plastics ban shifts responsibility to consumer

Published:Sunday | December 30, 2018 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The ban on single-use plastic bags is a game changer. It has shifted the responsibility from the vendor, whose goods are being taken home by the purchaser, to the person buying them and carrying them home. An individual will now have to take more responsibility for their action than they did before with respect to how they carry things around.

Personal responsibility for all of one's actions is not a bad thing. It begins here with persons having a bag made of cloth folded - perhaps in the back pocket of a man and for the lady, in her handbag. It no longer will be the vendor who must be concerned how what is sold is taken to the home of this other, the purchaser.
