Uncaring schools, ministry creating more criminals in Jamaica

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I found an article published on December 30, 2018 - 'Banned for bad word: 13-year-old blocked from school since November for using expletives in the presence of a teacher' - troubling, as it seems that these rogue and uncaring school administrators are more interested in creating more criminals for the Jamaican society than helping our youths. Are they saying that this 13-year-old is irredeemable? Apparently, the sign board on the Heroes Circle compound of the Ministry of Education which reads 'Every child can learn, every child must learn', has been removed. Has this slogan by the Ministry of Education been thrown through the window?

This is just another example of loose operations within some of our schools, where school administrators and boards take onto themselves the roles of judge, jury and executioner of our kids without considering the long-term impact on the society overall. What does the Ministry of Education have to say about these schools that breach all guidelines under the Education Act and Regulations without being sanctioned?
