FLOW channel cut breach of contract

Published:Sunday | January 6, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

FLOW has started the new year in the same way it ended the last one - abusing its customers. They have removed a new range of channels from their cable line-up, including several from what was originally the Watch Sports Package.

I decided to pull out the brochure I received when I first signed up for FLOW's cable service several years ago, and to compare what I signed up for then versus what I now get (for significantly more money).

I initially signed up for what was then marketed as the Watch Basic, Watch Basic+ and Watch Sports packages. On January 3, 2019, I surfed through channel by channel, and although I knew that many channels for which I had contracted were no longer available, I was shocked to discover that 41 of the channels that were included in the above packages were no longer available, while around 14 new ones have been added as replacements.

Unfortunately, of those removed, many were movie channels, such as Starz!, while the replacements include several children's and music video offerings that are of absolutely no interest to me.

While I realise that licensing arrangements can affect what channels are offered to customers, removing three times as many channels as are added, while increasing fees by around 50 per cent, has to be seen as a breach of contract.

I have written a complaint to the Broadcasting Commission, but will not hold my breath waiting for any action to be taken. In Irish Town, there is currently no alternative cable service.
