Priory road congestion nightmare
THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is an open letter to E.G. Hunter, CEO of the National Works Agency (NWA).
While travelling from Drax Hall to Runaway Bay, St Ann, on the night of January 4, 2019, I came across a serious traffic jam. A journey that normally takes no more than 10 minutes took 40 minutes.
In due course, the cause was determined to be a congestion in the district of Priory, where cars were double-parked while persons meandered buying pudding, going in and out of the supermarket, bars, etc.
This very annoying experience reminded me of travelling through Old Harbour, St Catherine, some years ago - before the bypass highway was built.
Clearly, this congestion needs to be addressed by the NWA and other authorities urgently. Having improved the north coast roadways, to be in a position to boast a one-and-a-half-hour travel time from the centre of Ocho Rios to Montego Bay (which we all now plan around), this bottleneck is undermining, indeed reversing, the progress.
It is quite possible that airline passengers are missing flights because of this Priory congestion.
