Strong leadership needed to tackle COVID-19
THE EDITOR, Madam:
I was amazed at Prime Minister Andrew Holness assuring the public that the COVID-19 vaccine would be covered by the Government. Let’s be realistic. If something so vitally important is supported by the Government, more people will receive the vaccine and fewer people will thus be prone to spread it.
Don’t forget that it was assured to the United States citizens that the virus would disappear; it hasn’t. I would request the prime minister and his administration to rely on Jamaica’s scientific and health community.
Here, in the US, the administration has failed to take a stand and give us any direction. The US has a little over four per cent of the global population and currently has 25 per cent of all global COVID-19 cases.
The only thing I wish, besides the well-being of all, is if we could somehow borrow Mr Holness for a year to set things straight – because it is not going to disappear soon.
Be well, be safe, be healthy.
JAMES PRIESTER
