Talkback Thursday | JDF is a microcosm of the society
In recent weeks, some members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) have been accused of criminal offences, including wounding, firearm-related crimes and dealing in illegal drugs. We asked our followers if these events changed their perception of the Jamaican army.
“No, not a changed opinion per se, just concerned if things are getting lax in discipline and management there. Them need to look into themselves.” - @Zemi66
“I was surprised, but I am reminded that we are human beings and we make mistakes, bad decisions, wrong choices, and there’s no one perfect among us, except our Creator. Whatever the disciplinary actions will be, give them a chance, let them be an example and a message for all.” - @Psalmist_Kareem
“No, because they were caught by the same security forces, so that tells me they’re good people in the force doing the right thing.” - @black_unicorn94
“Yes, and they need to repair the damage, as all along they were facing the same allegations of corruption as the JCF. They just were good at keeping it under wraps. Till now.” - @happy_jamaican
“Why would they? The army is manned by human beings, who are susceptible to all manner of things. None of this is new, and is to be found, in varying degrees, in every nook and cranny of life - globally.” - @RasPhile
“The criminal incidents do not affect the way I see the army, it is the lack of transparency by the army that makes me have a bad perception. They are not being truthful about everything.” - Roberta Green
“Nope, there are always exceptions, and the bad ones are the minority.” - Kerry-Ann Hamilton
“No. I still see the JDF as a body of high standards, discipline and integrity, but there are a few corrupt and misguided persons in there.” - Sean Francis
“No, they are everywhere, I do not believe in bad apples spoiling the bunch.” - @loresweetie
