Letter of the Day | Trees That Feed Foundation making J’cans proud

Published:Saturday | November 7, 2020 | 12:10 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I enjoyed reading the Gleaner article ‘Sharing breadfruit with the world – J’can duo behind Trees That Feed Foundation works to create successful entrepreneurs’ by Lynda Edwards and George Graham, who interviewed Michael and Mary McLaughlin, founders of the foundation. Their mission is planting trees in developing countries to feed people, create jobs, and benefit the environment. Presently, their foundation is assisting 18 countries.

I applied to the foundation about a year ago, and they assisted me with fruit trees. I then applied for assistance for my farm group. The foundation sent Mr Johnson, who is an agronomist, to find out our needs and assist the group.

It was sometime after that that I found out that the founders were Jamaicans. I think Michael and Mary McLaughlin should be given a national award. Positive initiatives like these give me one more reason to be proud to be a Jamaican.
