Talkback Friday

Published:Friday | August 13, 2021 | 12:06 AM

Prime Minister Andrew Holness on Monday announced new COVID-19 containment measures. We asked The Gleaner’s social media followers their thoughts on the changes. Responses taken from Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

I’m interested to see how much of a difference the one hour change has

– @LoAnne_87

He should not have relaxed them in the first place.

– @ShannShawonne

When curfew was relaxed everybody run go have party so it’s obvious the hours isn’t the true solution. Events and gatherings need to be enforced and that should not have been allowed when hours were later.

– @kevrick25

Too much thought was given to ‘entertainment’ and none given to education.

– Shae LaLovely

In the absence of data to outline the reason for the spike, it is difficult to comment on certain measures. We know for sure, however, that curfews do not make any sense. It still baffles me as to why the PM tightens the grip on Sundays.

– Oneil A Blake

Dem a feel it dem lucky dem never get it tighter him give the people dem a summer break and dem run guh mash it up instead a guh buy food.

– Nigel Campbell

Curfew means more ppl with less space to practise social distancing. Businesses should extend opening hours up to 10 and supermarkets up to 12. Hire more people and rotate staff on shifts. For school, resume face to face January. Even 3 days per week. Exam classes can do full week

– Roxanne Kay Brown

If a dirt a jus dirt yaa man. People a go live dem life same way.

– Javon Harris

This has to do with the individual, not some regulations. If someone doesn’t decide to vaccinate or wear a mask it won’t make a difference.

– Terry-ann Mcdonald

Wonder if they placed Jamaica on the no travel list yet? Cause dat next. – @uknowasup_212

No man is an island. No man or woman stands alone. We all need to cooperate. Think about the people that are working on the front-line trying to save lives.

– @soundroyal_ent

I’m happy for the new movement, clearly what the prime minister put in place wasn’t working, so he had to make changes. – @gilfellion

Shouldn’t have allowed Dream Weekend to keep then we wouldn’t under strict curfew.

– @iamscorpio_nov

Just want to know a when school going to reopen, nothing more. – @monique_nathan

We had persons protesting/demonstrating against the lockdown. Free up the entertainment industry, etc., and we started to behave like idiots. Crowds, parties, ‘braafing’, dream/nightmare weekend, etc. Why is anyone surprised? – @millie.clarke.146
