What is wrong with criticising athletes?
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Congratulations are in order for the 61-member team who represented Jamaica well in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics. They won nine medals which include four gold, one silver and four bronze. We finished 21st in the overall medal table, which is a great feat for a small nation like Jamaica.
There have been comments and videos from persons who are behaving like our athletes shouldn’t get any form of criticism. It’s not because of hate persons are criticising the athletes, it’s because of love and knowing that person has the potential to win a medal. Footballers, cricketers, politicians, musicians and many others representing Jamaica get criticised. So why is it blasphemous to criticise athletes? So we should only praise athletes and not to criticise some of them ? Criticising your fellow countrymen/countrywomen doesn’t mean you’re not patriotic.
