READERS’ REACTIONS

Life without social media

Published:Friday | October 8, 2021 | 12:06 AM

On Monday, social media platforms Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp went down around the globe in the longest outage reported to date. Here, some Gleaner readers share how they were affected.

I didn’t even realise they were down until in the afternoon.

– @News_to_me21

Youtube never fails...lol

– @cleaning_berry

Was not. I’m a Twitter user.

– @suett29

I loved the involuntary break. I do have a small business operated mostly on IG and through WhatsApp Business, but I was glad for the break I probably would not have taken on my own.

– @deevineami

I was busy working so it didn’t affect me one bit.

– Andrea Forbes

Not affected at all. Was not online anyway. I was busy

– Nicola Williams

I didn’t realise till one of my co-workers said something about it. Didn’t affect me at all.

– Conrad Dixon

Just missed that I used it to communicate for my work purpose ‘n class.

– Alicia Dennis

I didn’t care about it after 15 minutes. I just went about my life.

– @876kittysoftpaws

I was not affected much at all. I usually do my postings early.

– Kerry-Ann Hamilton

I think this is something that needs to happen a little more often. It gives people a chance to see how much social media has drained the intrinsic value of real communication. However, there are obviously businesses who rely on social media, as well as people in isolated conditions.

– Evian Pollack-Blackwood

Just bored not getting to read the news.

– Paulette Stephenson

I was never affected. I was living before these things came about. I was in my Bible yesterday.

– Gay Morris Terriann

I got a lot more done.

– @sianscaribbeankitchen

The question should be how many pots that were left to soak got washed?

– @dahliag_12

Didn’t affect me at all, it was a blessing. Took the time to increase my knowledge on LinkedIn.
