Readers’ reactions – December 20 roll-out of electronic vaccination cards

Effective Monday, December 20, persons who have received the COVID-19 vaccine will be able to download their vaccination verification cards from the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ website to show proof that they have taken the jab. Here are the responses via The Gleaner’s social media pages:

Can we get an electronic copy of our ID as well? That would be a good thing to add given that us millennials are attached to our phones and I’m sure that way cards won’t be fraudulent, just food for thought – @lion_kxngjm

Wonderful news and should make for a more efficient, tamper resistant and fool-proof card. This card would almost be as important as your passport in times to come and I am always reminded of the popular American Express tagline: “You must never leave home without it.” – Audley Phillip

Given the fact that Jamaica, with such a low percentage of vaccination, currently has much better control of the pandemic than many highly vaccinated countries. With our numbers continuing to trend in the right direction, what is really the purpose of this card? Will it somehow be used to enforce discriminatory policies against the unvaccinated majority?
