Mandatory employment screening for teachers

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am writing this letter with reference to the article titled, ‘School principal allegedly linked to over $4 million in illegal land sales’, published in The Gleaner of October 20.
I am in support of mandatory pre-employment screenings for teachers. I also support mandatory evaluation of the employee as they complete five years of service.
There should be a neutral body, possibly a private enterprise to whom this screening process is given to handle. This will ensure that there is no bias, there is transparency of the process and the work undertaken would be at par with the best practices.
