Dr Marshall Hall – a true patriot
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Dr Marshall Hall was a humble corporate and academic heavyweight, stellar public servant, a true patriot and professional.
I became close to Dr Hall when I joined the Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI) as co-executive director and he was chairman of the board of governors. I will always be grateful to him, the late Oliver Clark, and Earl Jarrett, who, despite my political antecedents (just out of government) took a chance on me by recommending that I join this non-political, independent think-tank, based at The University of the West Indies. I will always be grateful to him for this opportunity, despite the obvious risks.
Dr Hall was a visionary who gave of himself to service. Among his accolades are the establishment and growth of the Mona School of Business and Management, and the CAPRI. He was chairman of the Banana Export Co. Ltd, the Eastern Banana Estates Ltd, the Jamaica Mutual Life Assurance Society, the St. Mary Banana Estates Ltd, and the Victoria Banana Company. Dr Hall was also a director with National Commercial Bank of Jamaica Ltd, and Guardian Life Insurance Company.
My condolences to his family and friends.
