Live electric wires at home pose fire hazard

I recently read in The Gleaner of a fire that destroyed parts of a house in Hope Pastures area which occurred while an electric vehicle was being charged.

Without knowing the details of that unfortunate incident, I would like to report the following situation:

Some years ago, the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) changed the power supply to some premises in Hope Pastures, including mine, from the original underground supply to an overhead system. Recently, I discovered that in doing so a set of live wires (i.e. retaining connection to the underground system) were left wrapped in electrical tape and placed behind a wooden cover at the site of the original breaker box in the car port area.

I immediately reported this potentially hazardous situation to JPS. After sometime, a team from JPS carried out an inspection, confirmed the wires were live, and said a report would be made. However, after more than a month, it has not yet been corrected.

Perhaps other Hope Pastures residents might wish to determine whether a similar problem exists on their premises.
