Overflowing sewage in New Harbour Village

Published:Monday | August 7, 2023 | 12:05 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I am writing to bring the relevant authorities’ attention to the overflowing of sewage water along various roadways in New Harbour Village (NHV) II.

The residents have made numerous complaints to the National Water Commission (NWC), but there has been no action take; we continue to be overlooked and unassisted. In my opinion, the NWC Lift station along Island Circle needs an overhaul. In fact, it needs to be relocated! It is no longer adequate for the community, bearing in mind sewage flows from NHV IV to NHV II as well. This is additional weight. The roadways have been sinking as a result of the settlement, as the main sewage line runs under the main roads within the community.

With the upcoming adjoining new scheme, Whim Estate, it leaves one to wonder how this will further complicate matters. We need assistance, and it is imperative that this is situation is addressed with urgency. This must not be allowed to continue. This is a public health issue which could lead to the breakout of many diseases. Let’s not forget our children who have to stay indoors because of this situation. Plus, there is a school in the community.

Hoping that this communication reaches the relevant authorities and public bodies.
