Take down gangs and lottery scammers in Westmoreland

Published:Tuesday | August 8, 2023 | 12:05 AM

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The parish of Westmoreland continues to be negatively affected by violent crimes, which has resulted in a number of persons being murdered since the start of this year. This is a major cause for concern for us political leaders, and citizens of the parish.

A special police-military task force should be formed, with adequate staff and resources to go after the gang leaders and lottery scammers who are operating with impunity across the parish. These people have been responsible for the majority of murders taking place throughout the parish. These lottery scammers are brutish and dangerous, and with deep pockets. Through the ill-gotten wealth, they are able to purchase large quantities of drugs, illegal guns and ammunitions and form themselves in highly organised and modern criminal gangs. It is this group of people who are causing mayhem, bloodshed and violence in Westmoreland, which has brought disrepute and made the parish dangerous and unsafe.

Westmoreland was not like this even 12 years ago; however, it is about time that the citizens of the parish stand up and condemn the high crime rate. They must commit themselves to work with the law-enforcement agencies to tackle and reduce the high crime and murder rates. The corrupting lottery scammers and gang leaders operating in Westmoreland should be brought to justice. People should also try to come forward and provide information that they may have on lottery scammers and gang leaders to the security forces. These people should be arrested and face the full force of the law. Further, these scammers should be extradited to the United States to face charges and punishment.

Let us support Senior Superintendent Wayne Josephs, commander for the Westmoreland Police Division, and his team of hard-working police officers to restore law and order.
