Do religion and politics mix?

THE EDITOR, Madam:
The mixing of religion and politics is like mixing beans and cheese, or melon and milk – an immediate mental indigestion. Yet, Pope Francis praising Russia imperialism amid the war in Ukraine rivals even the oddity of cereal and orange juice joining together, or peanut butter and bacon.
It’s purely about the logic of religion joining ranks with politics of whichever side, while claiming loyalty to the Christ (Luke 11:23). From what Jesus Christ stood for, it certainly must be a major deflection from His example in light of His own statement at John 18:36, confirming that His kingdom is not of this world.
In view of a Christian wearing political stripes, how would you reconcile that with Jesus saying that the ruler of this world has no hold on Him? (John 12:31) That ruler, of course, couldn’t be God, since Jesus and the Father are in agreement (John 14:6).
