The beauty of lignum vitae

THE EDITOR, Madam:
I wish to comment on the contribution by Dr Lorenzo Gordon who wrote an article on the lignum vitae – symbol of beauty. His contribution reminded me of a poem written by our own Harry Ormsby, When the Lignum Vitae Bloom.
“On the far-off rugged hillside
See the distant batches blue
For the Lignum Vitae blooms out
On the hills in dale and all about.”
This poem sticks with me after 70 years. As a school boy we had to recite same each morning after morning devotions. Pity you did not find this poem to close out Dr Gordon’s article published August 13, in The Sunday Gleaner.
I did enjoy the article and could relate to same in its contents.
