Positive side of teachers and nurses migration

THE EDITOR, Madam:

No one can prevent teachers from migrating to other countries to work, so the question is: what should we do? First, we need to acknowledge that our country’s educational system is strong, because we are producing highly sought-after teachers and nurses who are in high demand in first-world countries.

This demand should be recognised, and we should focus on producing more teachers and nurses to meet this demand both internal and external. The mass migration of professionals from Jamaica will only cease when the market stabilises and the demand is adequately met.

We must recognise and embrace this exportable product, treating it as an opportunity for growth. It is my belief that when a Jamaican leaves the country and purchases a one-acre property in another country, we have effectively expanded Jamaica by one acre. Therefore, we should capitalise on this potential and view it as a positive export.
