Haynes had the last laugh

Congratulations to the West Indies on winning an One Day International (ODI) home series against England for the first time since 1998. Desmond Haynes has silenced the critics with this series victory in emphatic fashion. Keacy Carty has the potential, same with Alick Athanaze, their techniques are ideal for top order batters, in this format that is. However, we’ve got a long and challenging road ahead for the ODI World Cup.

Haynes can’t continue to put his neck on the block like that before a series, and ought not think the team would bail him out all the time. The criteria for selection in Tests, ODIs and T20s must be finalised and clearly outlined. The best must be rewarded in the regional four-day Test Championship, the regional Super 50 and the CPL. Cricket is all about statistics, and data transcends bias and favouritism, and should be paramount for selection.
