THE EDITOR, Madam:

I was captivated by The Gleaner’s piece in the Growth & Jobs section titled, ‘Norwich breadfruit highly rated locally and internationally’, featuring the Yellow Heart, the remarkable Norwich breadfruit. Councillor Dexter Rowland, Minister Floyd Green, and the entire Gleaner team, amen and amen, I absolutely share in your enthusiasm expressed in the article.

In my courtship days, I affectionately dubbed the unmatched Portland treasure as “Sweet Heart Bliss (SHB) breadfruit” and taught my Haven Hill Baptist love, Sandra, how to prepare an average-sized SHB from Norwich in a microwave oven in 25 to 30 minutes. Picture this: In the uptown apartment, on the stush dining table, without smoke, no soot, yet fully prepared, steaming SHB hot with delectably crisp skin, no butter, no ackee, no coconut run-dung or other sauce, no salt fish, no jerk, no meat-kind, not a hint of seasoning. Just SHB! Eh Glen?

A CAUTIONARY NOTE: Before cooking, inflict a well-placed X with a knife at the base of the uncooked fruit to allow steam pressure release and avoid mishaps in the oven.

The Norwich SHB breadfruit, in all its culinary versatility, is a clear winner. Its capacity to comfort is undeniable. To add a twist, Sandi not only embraced my passion for Norwich breadfruit, but also married me.

In celebration of the Norwich breadfruit’s acclaim, here’s to Yellow Heart, the growers, and the versatile gluten-free delight that is the Norwich SHB breadfruit. May it continue to grow, wow, earn and spread joy locally and internationally.

Thank you for the benefit of your time.
