From island hands to your home
Veeva Home’s green and local vision is clear
Anna Ward, owner of Veeva Home, is on a mission for 2025: push the sale of more quality artisan Jamaican and eco-conscious products while hosting as many pop-up shops as she can.
Known for its unique home décor, local craft, and eco-friendly products, Veeva Home had a temporary physical shop set up at The Hub Coworking Limited in New Kingston during the Christmas season, and Ward told The Sunday Gleaner during an interview on Friday that another could be expected in the Corporate Area soon. Through this, she can increase local production and help more artisans who she depends on to create Veeva Home’s products.
Since setting up her online shop in 2021, Ward has worked with 10 artisans from all across the island to create purposeful pieces.
“I really wanted to tap into the local industry. There are so many artisans here that make beautiful pieces, but most of the time, they are tailored towards tourists and the tourist industry, so we wanted to collaborate with a lot of different artisans all across the island and come up with designs that locals would want to purchase and use in their homes as well as tourists and to promote a lot of sustainable and locally made, zero plastic, environmentally friendly products,” Ward told The Sunday Gleaner.
She spoke of Veeva Home’s expansive local network.
“The artisan in Negril does all the sewing of our pouches, and it’s beautiful work, very clean work. She does all my pouches in a small, medium, and large size as well. She does all the sewing for me while the person in Portland makes all our wooden spoons all by hand,” she said.
Veeva Home was born out of Ward’s passion for sustainability and locally made decor, and for 2025, she is in planning mode.
“Right now, we’re in planning mode for 2025. We’ve been open for a few years now, and we’re kind of at that point where we’ll either expand and find new markets, both locally and overseas, or continue just selling [directly] to consumers on our website,” Ward said, adding that January and February are key ideation periods for the brand.
“We plan out the new products and then we launch them throughout the year,” she said.
Eco-consciousness is at the heart of what Ward does at Veeva Home, and it is an area she continues to focus on.
“Our eco-friendly line was very important to us. Unfortunately, not all our eco-friendly products can be made in Jamaica at this time, but we did still want to offer just a small range of eco-friendly products. The eco-friendly products focus on reducing plastic waste, finding alternatives that are also beautiful so you don’t have to sacrifice the beauty of your products,” she said.
